Wed, 17 Jul 2013 – Lisa n Danny
Many thanks to you both for a great trip to your little slice of paradise. We came along not knowing what we might find and with only the basics onboard. But you sorted everything out for us and gave us a trip to remember. The service and food were second to none. The fishing was good with a taste of what will be around once the river has fully settled.

All in all a superb trip.Cannot wait for our return. One last thing, what a refreshing change to have such friendly and jovial hosts that offer just what it says on the tin with no bullshit.

Well what can I say. Catburglars! what a holiday, culminating at 2:00 in the morning, my last morning of my trip a 94lb catfish, Wonderful.

This was my first time with Dan and Lisa and can honestly say that if you want to fish all day or night on the bank, then this is the place for you. Not only is there a bivvy on the bank but if you do get tired and you will, there are chalets a 100 metres off the bank with all the luxuries you need bed, shower and toilet facilities all there. Not to mention the fan. which is a blessing.

The one thing i can say about my holiday is that Dan was allways on call every day, 24 hours a day via the walkie talkie and if you needed assistance and i did with that last fish. One call and he is there ASAP. Allways on hand to give you tips on how to fish and more importantly what bait to use, an advantage when this was my first trip to Riba Roja and Dan The strawberry boilies was my idea!!!

Now the last and in my view the most important link on any fishing trip. The Lady of the house, the driving force behind the whole holiday, Lisa. Ever helpful, always there if you needed something from Riba Roja, A joy to be with.

The food Lisa prepared was wonderfull, Large portions so you “fill up” a very big breakfast in the morning to keep you going and if you wanted a sandwich at lunch, no problemo and good home cooked meal at night.

So there you have my review. If you are looking for a fishing experience on the river Ebro. This IS THE ONE. Look no further.

Being an eternal optimist and having no other option on dates myself and 7 friends visited Cat Burglars. We had booked two days (May 24th and 25th) pretty much in the middle of spawning season. To further reduce our chances a heat wave started two days before our trip. Average annual temperature for the time of year is around 22 degrees centigrade. This was closer to 40 C.

When we arrived we were greeted by a very friendly bunch. There was Lisa and Danny (The owners) and our three guides Chris, Sussy and sorry forgotten your name!

As there were so many of us Danny had arranged for us to fish beyond the dam a opposed to the bottom of his garden. When we arrived we were stunned by the scenery and what Danny and Lisa had laid on. There was an 8 birth cabin cruiser (the mother ship) and three fishing boats to go with it.

Out of the 8 of us 5 were keen fishermen, 2 undecided and 1 definitely not. All of us agreed that we were in for a treat judging by what we had witnessed so far. Danny was very trusting with the boats. As long as you had experience he was happy for you to go out on your own.

During the two days we saw vultures, golden eagles, bee eaters, king fishers, black kites, snakes and all sorts of other fantastic wild life.

The BBQ Danny cooked was outstanding and we had plenty of food for the whole two days. Unfortunately our timing was poor from a fishing point of view and we were unsuccessful but due to the date restrictions the fishermen among us expected it. All of us agreed though knowing what we know now we would still book again even if we knew we weren’t going to catch.

We had a brilliant time and all of us are booking to go back again. Danny is a great guy and I felt I made a real mate there. Thanks Danny and Lisa. You will see us all again soon individually or even together. I liked it so much I am taking the Mrs and Kids next time.

All the best.

We’ve just got back from the most amazing adventure to catch a giant catfish, we arrived at the most beautiful spot a villa owned by Lisa & Danny situated in breathtaking scenery of olive groves, fruit trees,3 dogs, cats, chickens, goats, and many other animals the land leads all the way to the river Ebro where the action begins.

You have a choice of accommodation lovely on suite chalets, or a bivi right on the river bank for the more serious fisherman.

As soon as we arrived we were welcomed by Danny & Lisa a couple from the good old East End of London, two lovely people with that East End charm that made us feel part of the family as soon as we arrived including our dog Roxy.
Also on the site is an honesty bar,a large B,B,Q, and of course the lovely swimming pool surrounded by sun loungers and chairs to relax in while sipping a lovely vodka & tonic.

The country walks around their village is very nice green unspoilt watching the storks and eagles and many more wild birds in this beautiful setting, also you can take a walk to to the pretty village 15 minutes away with many restaurants and bars where you be made welcome by the friendly locals.

There’s a choice of food to eat from Lisa’s menu from steaks, exotic curries,to sausage and mash all prepared by the best chef on the Ebro who also cooks the best full English Breakfast ever to set you up for your big days fishing, also a selection of local wines and spirits from the honesty bar.

Moving on to the reason you came, your fishing guide and mentor Danny with a wealth of fishing knowledge gained from fishing around the world for these monster catfish believe me when l say monsters they’re massive, but with Dan’s experience you will not fail to catch he don’t wait for the fish to come to him he goes out and hunts for them they may run but they can’t hide hes the ultimate catburglar which is why after many years of fishing and catching a lot of fish Pike, Carp etc, around the 20lb mark l was suddenly confronted by this monster with the biggest mouth on the biggest fish l have ever seen face to face but Dan was there to help and advise me we landed it successfully he makes it all look very easy weighing it in at 110lb l was delighted one of the ultimate blasts of my life.

What a great time me and Maggie had two of the nicest people you could ever meet great hospitality, great food, and to top it all they took us to a lovely local restaurant in the village called the La Pansa Danny Lisa thankyou for the best warmth freindly stay we could ever wish for it was a pleasure to meet you and be taught to catch by the best there is we love you both and will see you again Maggie Kenny & Roxy xx

We wanted a change from the all inclusive holiday, and we certainly got it!

First of all the one hour train journey from Reus Airport in Barcelona to Riba Roja d’Ebre was amazing, the scenery was so beautiful. Lisa kindly picked us up from the train station which is only a 5 minute drive from the villa.

Cat Burglars is situated in such a beautiful area, we fell in love with it straight away. The villa is surrounded by olive groves and various fruit trees: Sharon fruit, fig trees, grape vines, peach trees, apple trees. The whole area is surprisingly green and lush, not barren and dry, which is what we were expecting. There are lots of lovely animals on the site, dogs, cats, horses, pot bellied pigs, goats, sheep, chickens. We walked nearly every day from the site to the village of Riba Roja Ebre because we wanted to exercise and because it was such an enjoyable 15 minute walk. The first thing that strikes you is the peace all you hear is the sound of the countryside. The second thing that strikes you is the heat – we now know why the villagers have a daily siesta.

The shops shut from 1pm and re-open at 6pm! Walking back across the bridge over the River Ebro we spotted a kingfisher diving in and out of the river and through the trees, and a moment later what looked like a kestrel or a hawk above us. We often stopped on the bridge and watched carp and catfish feeding in the river below.

Walking around the village is like taking a step back 200 years – the buildings seem so untouched. There is a little castle in the village which was ruled by the Knights Templar. Dinosaur bones have also been discovered in the area.

The River Ebro is only a few yards from the site and it was a pleasure just to sit and watch it. We both managed to catch a cat fish and carp while we were there, with the help of Dan and Oz – who were both on hand to help and advise. We also went horse riding with Tracy and John, even though we were beginners. After our lesson, we rode through the nature reserve and managed to see the beautiful wild ponies, storks nests and eagles.

We had tapas at La Pansa restaurant, cooked by Jordy I would definitely recommend the Calos. At Bar Potta, Pilli and Mariello also provided wonderful snacks and drinks and we often sat outside and watched the world go by, chatting to the locals – David a retired English gentleman, and Teresa, born in Barcelona but who spoke better English than we did.

We really enjoyed our stay at Cat Burglars. Lisa cooked us a delicious full English breakfast every morning. You could either cook your own meals or choose from the menu. There is an honesty bar with chilled soft drinks and various spirits. Lisa drove us to the nearby village of Flix, with lots of modern shops and street cafes. On site there is a lovely swimming pool, which we often used to cool off.

We definitely recommend Cat Burglars because it is so charming and ticks all the boxes. Its ideal for all ages. We would like to thank Lisa, Dan and Oz for making it a wonderful adventure. We will definitely be going back.
